These beautiful sculptures are part of a well-known group of objects widespread in Umbria, Marche, and Tuscany. These are wooden and multi-material sculptures, in which various poor materials were used in addition to wood, in particular, tow and animal glues, to finish and decorate the statues, often modeled without clothes and then enriched with fabrics, papier-mâché, and metal foils to make the simulacrum richer and more mimetic.
The figure of Romano Alberti from Sansepolcro, known as Nero, and his artistic production - with particular regard to studies on the execution technique - have been fully reconstructed by Cristina Galassi starting from the monographic exhibition in Umbertide in 2005.
The master's catalog is full of multi-material mannequins, more precisely defined as "dressable" statues, depicting Saint Roch, the risen Christ, the Madonna, the blessing Child Jesus, but also saints, female figures, and candle-bearing angels.
